We stayed here while attending the Texas Hill Country Food and Wine Festival. I figured since we were going to spend so much time downtown, why not. It was a pretty nice hotel, but I think you can find better.
The price was pretty good, for a downtown Austin Hotel. The parking was rather expensive, but it was covered and secure, so I didn’t mind paying the price of $18 plus tax a day. We did end up getting the parking paid for because they were doing some renovations on the 6th floor and didn't tell us. We found out one morning at 7am. I went and talk to the Manager and he was very nice. Offered us a $30 credit for breakfast and paid the parking. We ate at the Ancho’s restaurant in the glass atrium. Ancho’s specialized in southwestern cuisine. We had the quick breakfast, but the also serve lunch and dinner. On weekdays they feature a rotating luncheon buffets which isn't that bad. It is open Mon. – Fri. 6:30 am – 10 pm and Sat. – Sun. 7 am – 10 pm. They have a heated rooftop pool, but beware, if you go up after posted close time, you will get locked up there. I had to call a friend on my cell phone, thank God I took it with me, to come and open the door. They do have internet, but to get it for free you have to sign up to be in this thing called the Select Guest Program, or you can pay the $9.95 a day plus tax. For the most part it was a good stay and I will probably go back again next year. Part of the Texas Hill Country Food and Wine Festival travel blog |

The first leg of my weekend adventure started with the five hour drive from Kilgore. It was uneventful, to say the least. I arrived into Austin and took some time to visit the Bob Bullock Texas State Museum. I loved the 35 foot bronze star in the Lo…… Day one was Awesome |

From San Francisco, I got routed on American Airlines to Los Angeles, then caught a direct flight from there to Austin. I was home by 9:30 that night. It was a long trip back, and I was so glad to get back to my own shower and my own bed…… Back Home! |

In honor of my parents' (Ed and Arlene) 50th Anniversary, I took them on a trip to New Zealand. My parents live in Wyoming and have traveled fairly extensively in the US, Canada, Mexico and Caribbean, as well as some in Europe.
