Rain in the rain forest
posted by:
Jul 20, 2007 - Jul 26, 2007
The Olympic National Forest is on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington. Most of it is inland, but a small portion is along the coast. In the park we camped in the Hoh Rain Forest. At the Hoh they receive an average of 140 inches to 167 inches of rain each year. That's 10 to 12 feet of rain. It only averages 3.5 inches a month in the summer, but due to our luck it rained 6 inches in two days...4 inches in one afternoon and a night. The first day when it didn't rain as much we got in a small hik...

Olympic National Park-Hurricane Ridge
posted by:
Apr 01, 2006
I had lived on the Kitsap peninsula for about a year before I realized that there were mountains practically in our backyard. OK,  I knew the mountains were back there, it's just that I only started to care after about a year. The Olympic Mountains are spectacular to see when they're not covered in clouds. In the summertime when the skies were clear, the sunrise would bathe those mountains in light and in the evening the sun would set behind them. They were fairly jagged, always snowy an...

Roadtrip across the U.S. 2007: Olympic National Park Travel Photos
posted by:
Jul 02, 2007 - Jul 10, 2007
My best friend and I just recently got back from a 3 1/2 week roadtrip across the U.S. It was definitely the most amazing trip I've ever taken in my life. We took the northern route all the way out to the Pacific coast, went down the coast, then came back the southern route. For anybody who hasn't taken a lengthy roadtrip in their life, I highly suggest you do so while you are still young and single...it's a once in a lifetime experience that you will never forget.

Olympic National Park in Washington is an absolute must see for those who enjoy the outdoors and I believe it to be one of the more unique parks in the States. The Park includes Pacific Ocean beaches, rain forest valleys, glacier-capped peaks and a stunning variety of plants and animals. Outside of Glacier National Park this is without a doubt my favorite place to visit in the lower 48.
