The main thing I can say about Bamako is that you definitely need to get accommodations on the north side of the Niger River. This is where the U.S. embassy is and where the nicer part of town is. Out of the 15 rooms we stayed in here at the Olympe only half had running water at the time and the air conditioning didn't really work half the time either. But I was surprised about how industrious the people were and how they tried to make the best with what they had.
