We left our suitcases in the hotel, for the next two nights we had our backpacks.
First we walked to the Plaza de Armas of Cusco, from there we had a transfer to Moray. In Moray we saw the circular Inca agricultural terracing. Very interesting. The terraces are partly in their original con…

Cusco, Peru -› Ollantaytambo, Peru -› …
We were awoken at five a.m. this morning, once again by Wilfredo, who offered us a choice of tea or hot chocolate to warm our insides before we dared climb out of our protective sleeping bags. Everyone seemed to have a restless night, partly due to the …

"In this place they had the Inca a big force of the strongest of all their dominion, seated among some rocks that few people were enough to defend of much. Among these rocks they were some sliced rocks that made unassailable the place: and for the low thing it is full with big platforms that seem w…

Sunday we took an all day tour of the Sacred Valley which is the area between Cusco and Machu Picchu with lots of ruins, markets, etc. Organized tours are not necessarily my favorite thing to do but it was Sunday market day and we figured it would be fun. The drive over the pass from Cu…

Cusco, Peru -› Pisac, Peru -› …
Ollantaytambo was a mountaintop retreat about 45 miles northwest of Cusco. Massive stone terraces served as agricultural platforms for this temple citadel. Again, we were witness to the uncanny Inca stonework of doors, walls, and windows. From the bottom of …

The ride from Aguas Calientes to Cusco is long and takes even longer since it's all going up! If you don't want to spend much time at the train you can either stay in Ollantaytambo or in Poroy and from there take a bus / taxi and arrive to Cusco faster. But the view from Cusco at night is worth! We …

We slept pretty well but the stupid rooster woke us up at 4:30. We had breakfast at 7 in the garden. We then caught a taxi to Ollantaytambo and got dropped off in the plaza. We hoofed it down to the train station to get our tickets to Aguas Caliente and to stow our packs. Th…

The weather wasn't very good the day after so what would be a nice thing to do. Of course visiting a museum. The lonely planet mentioned under 'sights and activities' a nice museum about the local history and ethnography. Well I thought it would be nice to visit this museum this morning. After a sh…

Quite a long day today, our guide was late and we seemed to spend a lot of time sitting on the bus when we should have been doing something. It later turned out that GAP had bought the wrong day ticket for the Incan sites for the trekkers, luckily the four of us staying in Cuzco got the 10 da…

I couldn't have imagined how beautiful a country could be until I saw it for my own eyes. The land is dramatic with colors, terrain, snow filled mountain tops to lush farm lands. Most think of Machu Picchu as being Peru but there is much more.
