Sunday we took an all day tour of the Sacred Valley which is the area between Cusco and Machu Picchu with lots of ruins, markets, etc.  Organized tours are not necessarily my favorite thing to do but it was Sunday market day and we figured it would be fun.  The drive over the pass from Cusco was pretty spectacular but we knew we were on the dorky tourist bus when we blasted by the ruins at Tambomachay and Pukara in order to get to the souvenir stands more rapidly….We did stop at a...

I had an amazing time in Peru. Spent time in Cusco, Ollantaytambo, Machu Picchu and Lima. Adjusting to the altitude of Cusco was unquestionably necessary. The people, their crafts and the ruins of this region are simply beautiful.

Peru is phenomenal! Every part of my trip was amazing, from my first passport stamp to my last night in Peru consisting of two hours of sleep.

We set out on the third day knowing that this was to be the last day of serious treking (some 7/8 hours of walking ahead of us) and thinking that the hardest pasrt was behind us.  But the first part of this day´s walk is a really difficult steep ascent for the first hour or two, more difficult than the Dead Woman´s Pass in my opinion (or perhaps it just felt more difficult becuase of the tiredness from the day before!). On the way up we did get a breather as we stopped at an Inca ware...

Cusco is one of those places that still remain a favourite destination while being overly touristy. If you say you've been to Peru, people will ask you if you've been to Cusco. It's really just a given, seeing as it's the biggest closest city to Macchu Picchu (which I would have to say is one of biggest drawcards of South America, let alone Peru). It's actually a lot smaller than I anticipated, but quite lovely with lots of old buildings, both pre-colonial and colonial. The streets are mostl...

KERRY -  Today we visited the Sacred Valley for the day before the start of the Inca Trail the next day. The first stop was at Sacsayhuaman, about 30 mins from Cusco. This site was a sanctury and temple of the Incas and was in excellent condition. The stones were huge at this site. There was also an impressive view of Cusco from here We then drove on passing some amazing scenery of lush mountains and valleys to the next site, Pisac. This site was an inca fortress set on he hillside and ...
