My favorite bruschetta Aug 02, 2012
Oliva Etterem (not spelled Olivia) has a nice range of Italian options, with a few traditional Hungarian dishes. The bruschetta is excellent, as is the mammoth spinach lasagna, and the list of pizzas promising something for just about everyone. Salads are large and make a nice vegetarian meal. The location is only a block or so behind the Basilica, but feels tucked away like a local secret. The interior has some charm, and the staff (and menus) are friendly to English-speakers. I like to take visitors here when their stomachs need a break from too much paprika!

Superb food and affordable Jul 15, 2011
This is a hidden gem amongst thousands of other restaurants in budapest.

Most tourist will go to the restaurants around the main tourist area - the Vaci utca, or other high profile locations. In these areas the food is twice as expensive and(in my experience) half the quality of what you can expect from Olivia. .

Having lived in Budapest for 5 years this is one of the restaurants I would go to very frequently, and it never disappoints. I think I have probably had everything on the menu by now.

The service - always good , friendly waiters (unlike most waiters in this city) and usually the food will arrive quickly.

The prices- in the lower range of average Budapest restaurants. Expect to pay 10£ for full meal and drinks (less if you choose pasta. Beers are about 2.5-2£.

The food - a good selection of tasty pasta, pizzas and local cuisines. I would advise you to try the venison or the Mangalica (hungarian pig breed) or even the gulash for a proper taste of Hungary.

All in all it makes for an enjoyable evening, and then there are some extra bonuses - you will usually get a bowl of free olives before the meal , and after the meal they will usually give you a shot of a lemon tasting liquer !

A good advise is to sit outdoors by the captain cook pub and continue drinking as this is a great venue !
