Apparently under mangement Dec 02, 2008
Ive read a lot reviews about olivers travels in La Paz abnd have all to be to the contrary. After speaking with the weathered bar man Max from england i learnt it was undr new management and that the old manager/owner had moved onto Peru (so watch out in cuzco). It was wednesday night and after a few early beers an BLT the place began fill up wityh other gringos and local ladies all looking for fun which was on offer in the form of a costume party with free hire of costumes that in the en i must admit made me look a twat...good laff though. By the end of night i had rum myself up a tab as large as my thirst and headed ot alocla clun reccomended by the staff who met us there later and partied until the 5!!!!!
Maybe i was lucky, and every other night is as bad as the reviews say but just try it out for yourself

Oliver's Travels Pub - DO NO GO HERE May 18, 2008
OLIVER'S TRAVELS PUB - WARNING - DO NOT GO THERE!
This had to be the WORST place I have ever been to, and I have travelled all over the world.
"Oliver", the dodgy pub owner was a rude, insulting drunk. We were a group of 20 people. We all ordered 2 course meals, and drinks but after we had paid he came and told us we had given him a sh!t tip, and he asked for more (in his own words)! This was after waiting for over an hour for our meals, having the desert come out before the main course. Getting 4 of our meals wrong! He is a religious and racist bigot - just take a look at his flyers! He asked out tour leader if we were Mormons because he said we were not drinking enough alcohol, he also stated if we were Jehovah's Witnesses, we would be thrown out immediately as he couldn't stand them!
The service was atrocious, and the food mediocre. DO NOT GO HERE!

I have know Olly the owner of the Pub mentioned in this review since 1996 when we studied together in the USA. I laughed when I read the comments about him, even though I have talked to him once in the last 10 years this article describes him completely. However having said that, he is definitely not a racist or bigot. He has an unforgiving sarcastic sense of humor that seems to be bread into people of working class decent from Scotland and Northern England. I suggest if you are a soft shandy drinker (or don't know what a shandy is) avoid this place like the plague. If you want to meet a genuine bloke, who has back-packed around the world and for years and has 1000s of great stories get into his place and have a few beers with him. You will come away from the experience with great travel stories of your own!

As for the quality of food and service, I have no idea.... so see above.

All the best Olly DNM.

Cheers,
Andy.
