Decent Enough Apartment Jul 11, 2010
Let through Grimaldi Apartments, which when we were there turns out to be a letting agency and estate agents. They were pretty damn persistant trying to pin us down to an arrival time in Venice, phoning 4 times, and a couple of emails while we were travelling round the Balkans.
Still, they gave us good directions of where to head once we got out of the station, and we just had to phone them when we got to Venice and they had someone meet us at the vapereto stop at the Fondamente Nove.
Was just a short walk from there down the Calle Del Fumo, where the apartment was located on the third floor.
Not only did he take time to make sure everything was in working order in the apartment, but he took the time to point out places we need to find like the supermarkets, and boozers that would be showing the football as well as throwing in a couple of reccomendations for local restaurants and more off beat sights.
The aparment had two rooms, one main bedroom, and a living room with beds for the kids. After nearly a week I had a fridge to stash my beer in at last :).
Kitchen had pretty much everything you needed. Plenty of cooking utensils, glasses.cutlery and even a teapot, but bizarrely no proper cups. There was a stack of plastic cups that you would get in vending machines or water coolers.
Toilet had a bath with a shower in it, and it was OK,with plenty of towels for our stay.
Two supermarkets within reasonable walking distance, which we found surprisingly easily, considering how often we got lost :D Once you do start to suss your way about,it's not that far a walk to get straight down to the Grand Canal at Ca'D'Oro, which cuts out a lot of sailing round the main island.
Not a bad option for a stay in Venice, as the apartment gives you that bit more freedom to what you like
