Oldsmar Flea Market Reviews
A curious little marketplace! May 30, 2010
The image I've always had of Flea Markets is a dingy dusty corner of a town no one really cares about.. filled with junk that you had to be crazy to go pick up!
My first view of a Flea Market in the outskirts of Washington DC confirmed this image.
And then I came to Oldsmar. The biggest local attraction, I was told, was the Flea Market. I had to check this out!
The Flea Market at Oldsmar is so much more than a "junk" market! Yes, there is a lot of second hand stuff at throwaway prices.. Yes, there IS a lot of stuff that you would have to be completely bonkers to pick up. BUT.. there is a whole section that caters to any average shopper. From furniture to clothes to all kinds of accessories!
There even is a section that is organised to be a Farmers Market. Fresh fruits, veggies and a bunch of other goodies.
The central aisle of the market is designated for food stalls. And for these food stalls, its carnival time all year round! You'll find Funnel Cakes and Corn Fritters here every single weekend.
There are stalls that can be rented out for the weekend as well. So it serves as a nice platform for entrepreneurs and people who dont have a garage to organise a garage-sale :)
The market is located at the intersection of Tampa Road and Race Track Road.. just a stone's throw away from the "downtown" area of Oldsmar! (Which just means that this is the area where all the hotels and restaurants are located in a 1/4 mile radius!)
The market is open only from 12 noon to 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.
But for those few hours, it is jam packed!
Our very own year-round fair :)
