Oldenburg Castle Reviews
The heart of Oldenburg May 17, 2015
This castle is not listed in the Top 10 of German castles, but it is one of Oldenburg's major sights.
Until 1946, Oldenburg was the capital of a small German state with a representative castle as administrative centre. In 1607, Count Anton Günther started the construction of a new residence. After his death in 1667, Oldenburg became a Danish territory, and all valuables were moved to Denmark. In 1815, Oldenburg became an independent state once again, and the castle was equipped with contemporary furniture. Since 1923, it serves as State Museum of Art and History (Landesmuseum für Kunst und Kulturgeschichte).
