Old Town Reviews
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() For a taste of old California with heavy Mexican influences, this is your stop. Jun 16, 2008
I've been to Old Town three times over the years. This time I went with my youngest. Now all of my girls have been there. I recommend visiting their official web site and watching the video before going so you'll know what to do while you're there.
It's a tourist 'trap' for sure but I think it's worth it. Shopping at the various stores gives you an idea of what it is like in Tijuana without the hassle and (recently) danger of crossing the border. You won't be able to barter in the shops like you would in Mexico but prices are pretty close to Tijuana so bartering isn't really necessary My daughter and I aren't into shopping but we both bought little mementos (jewelry) and enjoyed walking through some of the furniture and craft shops. Weekends are probably the best time to visit if you want to see more docents around. There are also more craftspeople demonstrating their skills on the weekends. We were there early on a Monday evening and most shops were closing and no docents were around. The restaurants fill up quickly for dinner guests because the food is great. Authentic Mexican is always worth a wait. I know my tourist roots are showing here but I think Old Town is a must-see if you're making San Diego a vacation destination.
