Old Town San Diego Mar 15, 2009
Old Town is a really neat area of San Diego that you really should see while in town. It's an area full of older buildings, shops full of souvenirs and other neat things you can buy, plus plenty of good restaurants and bars. It's free to walk around, but you might have to pay a small fee depending on where you park. It's a nice scenic area where you can really take in the culture. There are quite a few things to do and see there. I definately will have to go back. I didn't get to cover it all while I was there.

For a taste of old California with heavy Mexican influences, this is your stop. Jun 16, 2008
I've been to Old Town three times over the years. This time I went with my youngest. Now all of my girls have been there. I recommend visiting their official web site and watching the video before going so you'll know what to do while you're there.
It's a tourist 'trap' for sure but I think it's worth it. Shopping at the various stores gives you an idea of what it is like in Tijuana without the hassle and (recently) danger of crossing the border. You won't be able to barter in the shops like you would in Mexico but prices are pretty close to Tijuana so bartering isn't really necessary My daughter and I aren't into shopping but we both bought little mementos (jewelry) and enjoyed walking through some of the furniture and craft shops.
Weekends are probably the best time to visit if you want to see more docents around. There are also more craftspeople demonstrating their skills on the weekends. We were there early on a Monday evening and most shops were closing and no docents were around.
The restaurants fill up quickly for dinner guests because the food is great. Authentic Mexican is always worth a wait.
I know my tourist roots are showing here but I think Old Town is a must-see if you're making San Diego a vacation destination.

Disappointed and tired, we went to dinner anyway and had a tasty meal at our favorite Mexican restaurant, Old Town Mexican Cafe. Located in a prime tourist destination, we get a thrill walking around Old Town every time we visit. It was a real joy for both of us to look around the fellow customers, trying to figure out who's a tourist… Welcome home!

Behind the Whaley house is the beautiful Victorian quarter of the old town, which has some stunning architecture.  There you can find Bed and Breakfasts, victorian shops with tea, porcelain dolls, and lace. Coming back around past the Whaley house, passing the old Spanish colonial church, we headed to the Mason Street School , built in 1865, which… Loving it all in San Diego

Once we acquired a little rest and at the hotel, we headed over to Old Town for some dinner. We ate at the Cafe Pacifico and it was fantastic! We were completely under-dressed, but were so early that the place was empty. We had clam chowder, chipotle pesto sea bass, crusted salmon, and the biggest asparagus i have… Day 10
