Exceptional Nov 04, 2012
Since the early Middle Ages Prague's oldest marketplace has been situated in the very center of the city. We would be hard-pressed to find many events in the city's history that do not involve Old Town Square. It has been the site of several unfortunate and tragic occasions: on June 21, 1621, it was here that 27 representatives of the anti-Habsburg insurrection were executed; the Old Town Hall was nearly destroyed at the end of World War Two when the Nazis set fire to it; and in February 1948, from the balcony of the Golz-Kinsky Palace, Klement Gottwald announced the Communist Party's successful coup. However, the square's “dark side” has never robbed it of its rich vibrancy and festivities.

This square was exceptional both during the day and at night. Felt totally safe. Every direction you look is stunning. It does get busy though especially on the hour... Plenty of places for eating. Side streets great for exploring.

Staroměstské náměstí Jul 04, 2011
great atmosphere, ancient buildings and churches, this is one of the most beautiful old squares in Europe - "a must see" place like Carl Bridge. Ideal point to meet your lost friends :) nice bars and restaurants all around and after a good meal its worth just to sit downa and enjoy the atmosphere around you.

A piece of a fairy tale in Prague Jun 07, 2011
One of the most beautiful places in Prague. Highly recommend!!! Just know that every hour from 9 am to 9 pm there is a show on Astronomical Watches at the Square. During evening time there is a Ghost walk. Also go upstairs of main tower at the square for a nice view of old city.

The heart of Prague Dec 24, 2010
The Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) is and has always been the heart of the city. There are located many important buildings: the St. Nicholas Church, the Kinsky Palace, the Old Town Hall with its famous Astronomical Clock, the Týn Church. The clock and the Týn Church are perhaps the most famous symbols of Prague. Every hour it’s funny to see lots of people (mostly tourists) in front of the Astronomical Clock, waiting for the movement of the many characters... I did that too. Twice. Lol.

At the center of the square stands the monument to Jan Hus, the famous philosopher and reformist priest burned at the stake by the church.
