Most amazing old town I've ever seen Nov 04, 2007
There's very few cities in the world that seem to be completely unique. Besides Sana'a the only one I can think of is Venice.

Sana'a is one of the oldest intact cities in the Middle East, and the world. The area has been inhabited for over 2500 years and most buildings that you can still see today within the city walls date from the early middle ages.

And it's not just amazing because it's old, but also because the architecture is very special, especially for being so old. The multi-storey towerhouses were the skyscrapers of their time. And they are very beautiful, like gingerbread houses with suger frosted decorations.

But the old town of Sana'a is not just a huge open-air museum. It is an inhabited, functioning, bustling city. There are schools and mosques and souks, and just a lot of regular people living there.
