Old San Juan is the historic colonial district of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the oldest settlement within the territory of the United States. The city is characterized by its narrow cobblestone streets and colorful buildings which date back to the 16th and 17th century when Puerto Rico was a Spanish possession.
The district is also characterized by numerous public plazas and churches including the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista, which contains the tomb of the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León.

The oldest parts of the district of Old San Juan remain partly enclosed by massive walls. Several defensive structures and notable forts, such as the emblematic Fort San Felipe del Morro, Fort San Cristóbal, and El Palacio de Santa Catalina, also known as La Fortaleza, acted as the primary defenses of the settlement which was subjected to numerous attacks. La Fortaleza continues to serve also as the executive mansion for the Governor of Puerto Rico.
Old San Juan should definitely be part of your vacation in Puerto Rico.

I had no work today, so I decided to go to Old San Juan and visit the San Cristobal Fort (castillo de San Cristobal). I usually go to the other fort, San Felipe del Morro which is at the San Juan Bay entrance. This one, San Cristobal was the fort that looked into the land entrance to the old city. During it's heyday it was larger, but at the beginning of the 20th century the outer ramparts and bastions that reached all the way to the bay were taken down so that the city could expand. Wh...

The next day we drove about 2 hours to Viejo San Juan. Recommendation: YOU DO NOT NEED A CAR while in Viejo San Juan. Everything is in walking distance and if you want to go to the beaches, take a taxi. We paid around $20 per day to park our unused car (in addition to the daily rental rate) in a parking garage. And traffic in the city gets bad considering there are narrow one-way streets. Later that evening my sister and I then met up with a friend who flew into San Juan. We spent the first n...

Today is my first time of actually getting to see something on my trip to the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. I had gotten here a couple of days ago, visiting my friend Hector and his girl Enid, whom I met for the first time. They gave me such a warm welcome so I felt right at home. Unfortunately they had to go to work during the week, so I mainly spent my few days at the pool of Enid's apartment complex. But yes, today Enid arranged for me to be shown around Old San Juan by a friend of hers...
