"Old Sailor" Pub

My friends Agnes and Brendan joined in on a tour of the Red Light district on New Years night. Initially we were looking for a place to eat but then Brendan remembered visiting the "Old Sailors" pub a few years ago and suggested we find it. It was not long before we sported the Pub from across the canal.

The pub is British in setting but the decor is typical of a sailors aboard. A hug anchor hang from chains in the ceiling and the lighting was from little lanterns ringed together to form an old chandelier.

It was pretty crowded with not seats at the bar, so we stood by the window next to the gambling machine: there could not have been a better place for us. Right across were the fancy ladies dressed to kill displayed across 4 windows, they did their thing attracting men and women alike. We watched in awe as men negotiated with the ladies, many got in a few were rejected because they could not make the price.

Our drinks went down as if we had holes in our glasses. The bartender offered us HOT red wine which my girlfriend at first thought was ridiculous, but after one glass she took another two.

I highly recommend making a stop at Old Sailors, it is worth a drink and the view.

The Old Sailor bar is located in the centre of Amsterdam at the Ouderzijds Achterburgwal.
That's in the centre of the red light destrict.

The name says it all, a few hundred yeard ago the old sailors always went to this pub.
And they are right, because it's one of my favorite pubs in Amsterdam :)
They serve more then 100.000 Heinekens a year, so it's allways very busy in the weekends!

A lot of tourists come to this bar and that's nice of you're looking for a travelbuddy or someone to talk to if you are alone.

I can realy recommend this place, the beer is very expensive (0,5L = €5;) but definatly one of the bar pubs in Amsterdam.
