Old Quarters and Fortifications Luxembourg Reviews
Unesco World Heritage Site Jul 08, 2005
Luxemburg City is easily overlooked, but imho it's the nicest and most interesting capital in the Benelux. The old town is very beautiful, and as a crossroads of cultures, it has a very interesting history. You can learn all about it in the excellent Luxemburg City History Museum.
But the most unique sight in Luxemburg City are the Casemats, underground tunnels dating back to the 17th century, once an important part of the city's defences. They can get quite crowded in high season, but if you show up as soon as they open (at 10 am), it will be relatively quiet.
