Old Mill Tamed Game Lodge Oudtshoorn Reviews

game lodge nestled in the mountains Mar 14, 2010
This was a beautiful accomodation in the mountains of the Klein Karoo. I stayed in a guest house with a great bed and it was immaculately clean. The place is family run, owned by Afrikaans husband and wife team, Boy and Marianne. My english speaking didn't really take me far but we seemed to understand each other just fine. The lodge has a selection of tame game that appears to be farmed for their meat, but I suspect there may be the odd pet or two. Minutes after I arrived at the guest house, Boy could be seen herding a large group of baby ostriches down the laneway in front of me. Different antelope could be seen in the fields, including the giant Eland and some Kudu and if you booked a table at the farm's restaurant, you can see the animals grazing under the willow trees by the river while you eat a good meal on the outdoor patio.

At a separate building, breakfast was served each day. I was quite amused by the snippy African Parrot that was perched in a cage near the outdoor seating area. The parrot learned how to mimic the sound of Boy's golfcart when it is honking it's horn. I couldn't help but laugh when the bird started to taunt a very cute but slightly dim dog. The bird created the horn sound, and the dog went crazy, looking for the golf cart, wondering where Boy was. It was pretty funny.

I didn't stay there long, but if I was to stay for another day, I would have definitely walked through the hills and taken a look at the incredible exotic plants. Being situated in the Fynbos Region meant that one could see exotic plants that were native to the region that are not located anywhere else in the world, like the famous protea plant (you might recognize it on the South African cricket jerseys. Okay, I'm done nerding-out. The end.
The smartest of the 3 resident dog…
