Old Fenimore MIll Cedar Key Reviews
Small town Florida coast getaway with great view Mar 11, 2011
I like the Old Fenimore Mill in Cedar Key, Florida. It’s a favorite vacation place. If you’re driving around northern Florida for the first time, you may wonder how anybody knows about it. I like to go there to get away, eat seafood, and to stay somewhere tranquil with a small, northern Florida coastal town vibe.
The best part is you’re always assured a room a view because they’re all waterfront condo rentals. The condos have kitchens, great balconies, bedrooms (number depending on unit), and living rooms so it’s a great vacation home away from home where you can spread out and cook. If you get lazy or tired of your cooking, you can always take that short walk into town to eat and check out all the cute Cedar Key shops. The rental buildings are up on stilts and lined up along the shore to maximize view of the coast. And the view to me is reminiscent of the grassy sea/salt marsh of the South Carolina coast. So, it’s not really a prime beach swimming vacation area, but you can always use the available pool. If you have a lot of luggage/buy a lot of groceries, and you request the top floor you do have to carry everything up the stairs.
The staff is friendly and helpful. The condos are fairly clean (for the most part) and spacious even the smaller ones. But, the selling point is the character and uniqueness which may be a negative for some people. Every unit is different from the others because each is decorated according to that specific owner’s taste and ability in décor, furnishings, furniture, artwork, and trinkets usually from local Cedar Key artists. It makes it homey, not immaculate. Their website bills them as luxury rentals but I think of something different when I see the word luxury. It’s too quaint, casual, craftsy, and not professionally decorated for that in my opinion, but I suppose it’s context and place. Some of the units allow pets.
Here’s their website. http://www.fenimoremill.com/index.html
