Old Bell Classic Hotel Malmesbury Reviews
Charming hotel in Malmesbury May 05, 2010
Coming around the corner, we were awed by the huge, lavender wisteria vines clinging to the front of the hotel. From the outside it is charming!
But step out of the car, and the scent draws you in even more. The building facade is beautiful.
It's an old building, in fact it's the oldest hotel in England, dating back to 1220! It's original purpose was a hotel and although it's been updated and has had additions, the original building is mostly intact.
The front desk was VERY well staffed. Everone we ran into was pleasant and helpful.
Our room was in the addition section, the Coach House, however I also had a chance to see one of the rooms in the original part of the hotel.
Our coach house room had a rod iron queen bed with luxurious pillows, linens and duvet. The bed was so comfy, we slept great every night. There ware small lamps on both sides of the bed. (you'd be surprised how many hotels do not have this) There was also a clothes cabinet, desk and flat screen TV. The bathroom was small but stocked with a towel warmer, plenty of huge towels and boutique shampoo, soap and lotion.
The only thing I can say about our room was the TV was loosening from the wall because it wasn't attached to a stud.We weren't in the room mutch so it wasn't an issue.
The room in the older part of the hotel was actually a suite, with original building timbers visable and original window wells. The bathroom was huge and fairly modern, but I only got a peak so I can't go into any details.
We were back late to the hotel and they even offered to open up the tavern for us. Our last morning they started breakfast service 20 minutes early so we could catch an early flight out.
There's plenty of sights, restaurants, pubs and shopping within walking distance. We did not eat in the hotel restaraunt, but there was a breakfast buffet included with the room. There were both cold and hot meal choices. French pressed coffee and toasts. Omelettes were perfectly prepared with an assorment of choices.
There's free wireless internet in the hotel but receoption was not good in our room. Therw is wired access in every room but my devices only have wi-fi.
This is a lovely and romantic place to stay with simple elegance. Plus rumer is it's haunted too!
