One place I know for sure that we'll stop is Oklahoma City, since my 95-year-old Grandmother lives there, along with my father's sister and her family. So we'll be there for at least a day and a half, perhaps two days. Certainly not the last trip, but we're due for one and you should never pass up a chance to visit your 95-year-old Grandmother.

With the birth of cheap flights, package tours and tropical climes as hot destinations, the face of budget travel was changed forever and the once necessary travel form that is hitchhiking took a turn towards obsoletion. Where once such places were the retreat only of the adventurous, chickens in buses were replaced by air-conditioning, riding on the roof for want of a seat found its demise in fully reclinable seats and lonely paths became plastered in 4 lanes of concrete. The original exotic...

I spent the day in Oklahoma City seeing some off the wall sites and more importantly the memorial and museum there. I got a strange feeling just being at the bombing site. I had the same kind of feeling when I was on the grounds of the Mauthaussen concentration camp.
If you are ever in Oklahoma City, take a few hours and visit. It is worth it just to remind us that we need to fight against the bad in this world.

It started innocently enough; I visited Juneau, Alaska in June 1993 and explored the State Capitol building. A few months later, It was Montgomery, Alabama's. In the course of time, it became a hobby. Near the end it became a bit of an obsession. Then, in August of 2006, I visited my 50th US State Capitol building in Pierre, SD. (Yeh!)
Yes, I know, I'm a geography nerd....

I flew from Washington DC to Longbeach CA then my immediate family and I piled into a minivan for a superfast attempt at crossing the US. I took pictures, most of which are from the back seat of the tinted window minivan, but some of which are through the windshield and a few are actually from times we stopped. Enjoy.

After getting my rig unstuck, I stated out for Oklahoma City. Because of the late start, I spent a few hours in a rest area napping and then in the morning drove up to Midwest City, just outside of Oklahoma City. Pulled into the Elks Lodge there, got setup and waited out some nasty weather.
Okalahoma City has several nice museums and I tried not to miss any of them.
