Oklahoma is more than cowboys, native americans, covered wagons, football, and oil. We have fast paced weather. Everyone thinks of tornados. But what people don't know is that Oklahoma has 2 seasons: Wick Hot (the summer) and this other thing that is ever changing (the rest of the year). It could be sunny and in the 70's one day, then in the teens the next with snow. So basically I have my winter boots and sandals ready at any moment.
The s...

Maybe it's against the point of this site to blog about your hometown, but I don't care...So, I've lived in Oklahoma City since 1995. Coming here from Los Angeles was a big adjustment. I lost all my California friends in that move (which was pre-internet-becoming-mainstream) and had to start all over in a city I knew nothing about. But in 2007, I can honestly say I'm glad that move happened. My time in OKC has been awesome and I'm growing roots here. My youth was filled with moves, so I wonde...

Our second stop for the day today was the Cherokee National Museum in Park Hill, Oklahoma. Both my wife and I have some Indian ancestry, so we are both interested in seeing and learning about what we can. We spent quite a while taking the tour, checking out the Trail of Tears Art Sale that was going on this month and going through the rest of the museum. They had an extensive story display of the Trail of Tears, along with pictures, artifacts, and even short audio clips. This is a great museu...

Over a year ago, my friend started taking me out to eat, shop, and see a movie on Friday nights. I'm glad that we started making Bricktown the destination for our outtings. I work in a library, so I like to provide links if I can.
Bricktown is named for the brick streets that have been restored in some places. Bricktown used to be a warehouse district. The buildings still have painted signs of the businesses that built them.
Besides the great places to eat and shop, which I will get t...

Apologies for the reference to a sappy JD love song, but this trip has had an incubation period of over six months and we are READY to hatch this adventure to the other side of the world! With six suitcases, four carry-ons, and enough Benadryl to make 30 hours seem like 20 ;) we're on the ride of our lives. Thanks to everyone for your well-wishes and prayers. We'll take them all with us...

We awoke to some spitting rain and heavy clouds. Our spirits couldn't be dampened, however, and we ate a quick breakfast at our hotel before we hit the road. Canon City, Colorado was 700 miles away and we had a long day ahead of us. That would be nothing new; all of our road trips involved long days of hard riding. But, oh, how we are rewarded. With unbelievable memories and stories to tell and tell again for the rest of our lives.
Riding in rainsuits serv...

With the birth of cheap flights, package tours and tropical climes as hot destinations, the face of budget travel was changed forever and the once necessary travel form that is hitchhiking took a turn towards obsoletion. Where once such places were the retreat only of the adventurous, chickens in buses were replaced by air-conditioning, riding on the roof for want of a seat found its demise in fully reclinable seats and lonely paths became plastered in 4 lanes of concrete. The original exotic...

Like I said in the introduction, this is one possible route from Oklahoma City to Oregon. We're not sure which one we'll use.

One place I know for sure that we'll stop is Oklahoma City, since my 95-year-old Grandmother lives there, along with my father's sister and her family. So we'll be there for at least a day and a half, perhaps two days. Certainly not the last trip, but we're due for one and you should never pass up a chance to visit your 95-year-old Grandmother.
