ICE STORM - OKC
posted by:
Dec 10, 2007
Oklahoma is more than cowboys, native americans, covered wagons, football, and oil.  We have fast paced weather.  Everyone thinks of tornados.  But what people don't know is that Oklahoma has 2 seasons:  Wick Hot (the summer) and this other thing that is ever changing (the rest of the year).  It could be sunny and in the 70's one day, then in the teens the next with snow.  So basically I have my winter boots and sandals ready at any moment.     The s...

Maybe it's against the point of this site to blog about your hometown, but I don't care...So, I've lived in Oklahoma City since 1995. Coming here from Los Angeles was a big adjustment. I lost all my California friends in that move (which was pre-internet-becoming-mainstream) and had to start all over in a city I knew nothing about. But in 2007, I can honestly say I'm glad that move happened. My time in OKC has been awesome and I'm growing roots here. My youth was filled with moves, so I wonde...

Birthday at the Zoo
posted by:
Jun 21, 2008
My sister, Shari's birthday is June 22nd, so we took our families to the OKC Zoo on the 21st. It was a gorgeous morning, but let me tell you... the first day of summer is a ridiculous day to go to the zoo. It was so flaming hot that I threatened to go home. A lot. The OKC Zoo may be missing a few things... a decent train, elephants, but the one place it has the Tulsa Zoo beat, is the misters. God Bless 'em. I love misters. They had more than one train. The red antique looking train, tha...

Bricktown Oklahoma City
posted by:
May 09, 2006
Over a year ago, my friend started taking me out to eat, shop, and see a movie on Friday nights. I'm glad that we started making Bricktown the destination for our outtings. I work in a library, so I like to provide links if I can. Bricktown is named for the brick streets that have been restored in some places. Bricktown used to be a warehouse district. The buildings still have painted signs of the businesses that built them. Besides the great places to eat and shop, which I will get t...

Welcome to our Vacation!

Apologies for the reference to a sappy JD love song, but this trip has had an incubation period of over six months and we are READY to hatch this adventure to the other side of the world!  With six suitcases, four carry-ons, and enough Benadryl to make 30 hours seem like 20 ;) we're on the ride of our lives.  Thanks to everyone for your well-wishes and prayers.  We'll take them all with us...

After a very good breakfast this morning which included hot waffles, cereal, toast, fruit, and even breakfast burritos, at the hotel we got on the road for a long day. Our first stop was at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building Plaza and Memorial. We didn’t actually stop to walk through the memorial area, but did take a few photos as we slowly drove around the block. From there we drove another mile or two to the State Capitol Building where we got pictures of it also. The National Cowb...

Day Two ~ Oklahoma to Canon City
posted by:
May 09, 2007 - May 19, 2007
We awoke to some spitting rain and heavy clouds.  Our spirits couldn't be dampened, however, and we ate a quick breakfast at our hotel before we hit the road.   Canon City, Colorado was 700 miles away and we had a long day ahead of us.  That would be nothing new; all of our road trips involved long days of hard riding.  But, oh, how we are rewarded.  With unbelievable memories and stories to tell and tell again for the rest of our lives. Riding in rainsuits serv...

One place I know for sure that we'll stop is Oklahoma City, since my 95-year-old Grandmother lives there, along with my father's sister and her family. So we'll be there for at least a day and a half, perhaps two days. Certainly not the last trip, but we're due for one and you should never pass up a chance to visit your 95-year-old Grandmother.

Today is our 40th Wedding Anniversary.  How have the years flown by so quickly?  Why isn't my daughter still a little girl?  Actually, I like the age I am right now ... I'd like it even better if gravity hadn't gotten such a strong hold on my bod!!!  We spent much of the day visiting two of Oklahoma City's finest attractions: the deeply touching Oklahoma City National Memorial and the Museum of Art.  We had also planned to visit the Myriad Gardens/Crystal Bridge, bu...

Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial and Museum
posted by:
May 25, 2006
I spent the day in Oklahoma City seeing some off the wall sites and more importantly the memorial and museum there. I got a strange feeling just being at the bombing site. I had the same kind of feeling when I was on the grounds of the Mauthaussen concentration camp. If you are ever in Oklahoma City, take a few hours and visit. It is worth it just to remind us that we need to fight against the bad in this world.

Visiting all 50 US State Capitol Buildings!: Oklahoma City Travel Photos
posted by:
Jun 08, 1993 - Aug 22, 2006
It started innocently enough; I visited Juneau, Alaska in June 1993 and explored the State Capitol building. A few months later, It was Montgomery, Alabama's. In the course of time, it became a hobby. Near the end it became a bit of an obsession. Then, in August of 2006, I visited my 50th US State Capitol building in Pierre, SD. (Yeh!) Yes, I know, I'm a geography nerd.... All entries are maintained in on the 'first visit' date.

Shreveport, to Oklahoma City, Softball, 45th Infantry, Firefighters, Cowboy and Murrah Bld. Museums

After getting my rig unstuck, I stated out for Oklahoma City. Because of the late start, I spent a few hours in a rest area napping and then in the morning drove up to Midwest City, just outside of Oklahoma City. Pulled into the Elks Lodge there, got setup and waited out some nasty weather. Okalahoma City has several nice museums and I tried not to miss any of them. Amature Softball Association Hall of Fame and Museum. This museum honors the players and sponsers that have made outstanding ...

OKC is OK with me
posted by:
Jul 22, 2008 - Jul 29, 2008
On the 7.5 hour drive from Memphis to OKC, we passed through Arkansas. I wish I had something interesting to write, but nothing. We did pass by several signs for state parks, and had it not been 102 degrees or if we didn't need to be in OKC by a certain time, it would've been nice to stop and explore a park or two. Arkansas calls itself the Natural State, which really made no sense to us until we passed by several lakes in a strikingly green, hilly area. Next time we do a drive like this, we...
