Oji Zoo Kobe Reviews
Oji zoo Apr 05, 2009
Love them or loath them or be somewhere in between, like me. Zoos are here to entertain the people to get a close up of the animals and Oji zoo is no exception it has all the main animals, such as the lion, tigers giraffes, hippos and gorillas.
It is also the home of the panda which is only found at OJI zoo in the Kansai area. There are zoos in Osaka and Kyoto as well.
The pens that hold the animals are adequet some of them are large like the gorillas, ostrich and giraffes but then some are held in old fashion pens in tiny cages with thick bars, like the wolf whose pen was probably arould 5 metres square and it continually walked around and around in boredom. I felt sorry for it, even though I think they are mangy and ugly animals.
The zoo is only $6, real cheap if you ask me and especially worth the money, in the cherry blossom season when the grounds are covered in shades of pink.
This zoo might be a good day trip if you get tired of temples and shrines which is definately possible when travelling in Japan.
The zoo is located 350 metres up the hill from Nada station on the JR line. The station is one stop from Sannomiya.
