Ohio, USA -›
I'm not a big one for going out but it can be fun every once in a while. And when you haven't seen old friends in forever, it can be a blast. We went to a place in Columbus called "Patio" which is 1/3 sports bar 1/3 nightclub and 1/3 patio, of course. Drinks were had, and a French guy tried to grope my friends butt, but all in all a great night.

Bikers Remember
posted by:

In October 2004, a neighboring county lost one of their finest - Deputy Brandy Winfield - in the line of duty.  He stopped in the early morning hours to help what appeared to be a stranded motorist.  The person was eventually caught, tried, and convicted of the crime.  In the meantime, his friends have organized a memorial poker run honoring his memory.  The event grows in size each year.  The organizers have estimated over 500 bikes in this years' event.  One ...

Cedar Point - A Roller Coaster Fans Dream
posted by:
Aug 02, 2008
All the time I've lived in Chicago I have really wanted to visit Cedar Point, which is located in Sandusky, Ohio.  I LOVE Roller Coasters...and growing up where I did, there just weren't many to ride on.  Six Flags was in CA and in WA but we had none in Oregon.  So, when I moved to Chicago...I was extremely happy.  Not only do we have Six Flags, Great America to our North, we also have Cedar Point, five hours to east.  My roommate is from Ohio and when I told her that...

A great meal, some nightlife, the worst hotel ever, and a diploma

(even though this took place on the 3rd and 4th, I'm setting the "official blog date" as the 4th to simplify matters.)  Upon arriving in Bowling Green, we went straight to our illustrious hotel (you'll just have to read the review - ick).  We then went out to eat at EasyStreet Cafe (again, see review).  Easystreet was my favorite place to eat in town during my undergrad, and although the menu has changed, the food was just as good and I FINALLY got to sit on the upper platfor...

I told my husband I wanted to go to Dublin for St. Patricks day...
posted by:

Dan and I got up bright and early and drove down to Dublin.  As you can see from the pictures, it was FOGGY!  I had to drive pretty slow on the highway in a few spots.  It remained pretty foggy the whole way down. Dan and I had arranged a room at a local hotel for the evening.  We parked close to the hotel and scoped out the parade route.  We were lucky it was a relatively warm day for the middle of March in Ohio.  Seeing that no one was really crowding the stre...

Dennison
posted by:
Sep 03, 2008
My first town on this trip to Ohio.  I had trouble finding the town of Dennison, even with all the maps and GIS gadgets.  Our target was a place called the Dennison Museum, which is a restored PRR passenger depot.  It was closed, but it had a great old steam locomotive outside under restoration. Later I learned that this building served as a USO Canteen during World War II, a collection point designed to provide comfort, entertainment, and refreshment for soldiers heading into...

Day One: The Fun Begins
posted by:

Now you might be wondering why I'm starting in Cleveland instead of Milwaukee. That's the same thing the Continental ticket agents asked me when I got my non-rev passes for MKE-CLE-ORD. Why is the world would I go all the way to Cleveland to get to Chicago O'Hare? After all, I could just take the bus for 20 bucks and get there in an hour instead of heading two states over, waiting in the Cleveland Airport for a few hours, THEN catch an hour flight to ORD. Well, I ended up making a&n...

Getting together one last time at my aunt and uncle's house at 10am was quite a chore after not going to bed until 4:30am.  Plus, we had to be checked out of the hotel and ready to leave to the airport.  I was so jealous of everyone who lives in town that just had to roll out of bed and eat, especially for everyone staying at their house.  We were there for a couple hours before heading back out to Detroit.  It was nice to be able to do more catching up with people that I ...

Journey Awaits

July 13 What is it about my travels and natural disasters right now?  Last November four days before leaving for my South America trip a major earthquake struck northern Chile.  Now yesterday (July 12), 6 days before leaving for Alaska, a volcano erupts in the state out in the Aleutian Islands.  Now granted both of these were 1000+ miles from my ultimate destinations in the country/state and thankfully were not/have not been major disasters.  But ...

Commencement: To new adventures
posted by:

Anticipating the upcoming adventure entails a wide array of emotions. I am perpetually attempting to prepare myself mentally for the challenges and joys that are ahead of me. Regardless of my many attempts, I still believe I am in a dream. This doesn't seem real to me. It just can't be, the young lady from Kennett, Missouri, is traveling to Eastern territories. Despite my attempts at familiarizing myself with Korean culture I know it is impossible to understand something simply from written w...

Getting Ready to Go!
posted by:

Our way home took us from Santo Domingo to Atlanta (for customs) and finally on to Columbus, Ohio.  A long day, but so rewarding!  Coming through customs and security in Atlanta took approximately 1 1/2 hours.  Really not bad, and I'm sure the lines could have been much longer.  Our Delta flights were uneventful (which I really like) with on time service and no lost luggage.  Our only missing item was a couple of our luggage tags.  One very neat feature of the fl...

Leaving for Port Columbus Airport...
posted by:
Aug 02, 2007 - Aug 07, 2007
The slog down I-71 to get home was uneventful.  Stopped at the late-night drive through at Taco Bell at around 12:30 AM, as I did not have time to get a meal in Salt Lake due to the tight connection.  That and since I had turned off the AC at home while I was gone, my place was a sauna when I arrived and I wasn't going to be able to fall asleep until the AC had kicked the temp down a few notches. Another trip in the books.

Columbus, Ohio

Columbus Ohio   The trip to Columbus could be defined as spur of the moment and only a day long.  There were five places in Columbus, Ohio that I wanted to visit and only about 14 hours to see all of them.  My first stop was at the Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum as I am an avid motorcycle fan I had always wanted to stop by and see what they had to offer.  I was not disappointed in the least, the bikes, history and information kept me wanting more throughout the museum....
