Oh Calcutta! Bengaluru Reviews
"Expensive Calcutta food" Oct 17, 2009
I believe that the way to a mans heart is through food, and i have been a foody from my college days. When my room mate decided to move to a new place."Hyd" we thought of going out for dinner and after deciding for couple of hrs and fighting over it .we came to conclusion that we will go and have some really good Bengali food. All four of us started getting dressed in our best for our great bengali feast .. it took us few extra mins as we have a lady with us . and as usual girls take more time to get ready then guys :D.well we all were ready to go and took the amazing indian ride of "rickshaw".you can call it our enthu or our timing but we were the first of the guests :).we didnt do any advance booking and really it turned out that we actually dont need it.after getting our self comfortably seated and having the complete view of the place.i have to see it was much better than i had expected.the white and the red wood color added to the ambiance and the dim light did the topping.we asked for the menu it was not a lengthy menu i will say but pretty good and had all the major bengali items added to it, i was a bit disappointed by the price but then again we expected that. well menu was fine but what caught our eys was the ad at the table which said that there was a hilsa fish festival going on..yeapyy what else the hungry stomach needs..well the names of the dishes were in English but they depicted the authenticity of the Bengal.my stay in kolkata and a friend of mine who is bengali helped us.and her language skills too came handy when the waiter turned out to be from kolkata.after having our drinks.well he had sex on the beach for the girl.i went ahead with my scotch and same did my other friend. We had a non drinker with us so diet coke for him with a mixed non veg platter...After couple of drinks and we ordered "mache shol" well i might not be able to spell it fine ..its a dish prepared with fish and mustard.."dal makhni" "naan' "steam rice" and then couple of other stuff that i just ate and forgot the name..:D. The food was awesome and i ate it to the fullest.i am not much of a fish fan but i do love hilsa..well after the good food and my tummy being full.i cross checked at everyone and all had that content look at their face :)..we called for the cheque and were not a bit surprised by the it as it was well expected. We cleared the cheque and how can an indian dinner be complete without a 'pan' we orded 4 of them.each 1 with their specific customization :D.overall it was a good experience
Now that was about my experience there over all the place was a good break and as provided a good bengali food ambience was good so was the staff tough service can be a bit better, but a single dinner for 4 is actually fine if you dont take drinks but with drinks it can be a bit expensive.:) so for once in a while a place worth visiting
