Tourism for Locals.... Mar 02, 2011
FYI - If you are ever wondering where the heck the Santiago Tourism Office is, it's blended into the wall 1 door to the right of the Post Office. It's ridiculous! The little 'i' is the only indicator of it's whereabouts and I actually walked past it several times thinking it was a decorative door to the heritage building. haha.

After finally locating the office, I discovered I could barely find any pamphlets translated into English and only 1 guy spoke a little English which really didn't make me feel like the work was already one for me in terms of researching my itinerary. The staff who spoke to me informed me that Santiago tourist business usually catered to other South Americans, therefore 'Espanol' is the preferred language to use. It was good to experience being the person with the language barrier for a change, and I did find some maps and tourist pamphlets to keep that had information provided in English....but the pamphlets would rarely translate vital information to equal proportions (Spanish to English) which was really noticeable to me. I also seem to recall some of the solely English-translated informational brochures being hidden behind the staff's customer service counter so don't forget to chat them up to get the materials you want.
Little tiny door on the far right …
Just messing around with panoramic…
