Day One, Bruny Island
posted by:
May 02, 1998 - Jul 27, 2008
Shane, my boyfriend and I flew into Hobart from Sydney, we hired our rental car and made our way down to Kettering, a small town built around a quiet bay, this is where the ferry to Bruny Island leaves from. We enjoyed a quiet lunch in a resteraurant overlooking the D’Entrecasteaux Channel and Bruny Island before boarding the ferry for Bruny Island. A short 15 minute ferry ride later we were disembarking onto the picturesque Island. We had one night booked in Mavista Cottages, near the town...

Back once again! This is my fourth visit to Sydney on my trip, but it just keeps getting better and better. What a city; the weather, the harbour, the coast, I'm constantly falling in love here. While I'm getting extremely pumped for Asia, at the same time I can't get enough of Syddy. This time I'm here to gear up for Asia and to meet up with friends and buddies. On my second visit to Syddy this trip, I met up with TravBuddy Allan (Codebeck). We met up, drank a couple of beers and wa...

Prescriptive Misadventure & Bad Weather At LAX I think I was the very last person to check in at the Air New Zealand Desk. The second to last person was Andrew from the Isle of Man. Clearly we're kindred spirits in our tardiness, & from then on we became good friends and spent the entire time in the Cooks together. The flight from LA to Raratonga is about 13 hours; departing at night & arriving in the morning. Whilst waiting at the departure lounge I shared with Andi ...

Hobart to Sydney
posted by:

I love flying and one of the things I love most about flying is what I see out the window of the plane. This is some of what I saw on my way from Hobart to Sydney, some very pretty scenery.   I flew out of Hobart where the clouds streaked across the sky, and I got a great views of Mount Wellington with Hobart spread out along its base and along the shores of the Derwent River. I couldn’t quite see my place, but could see the bay near my home as well as the building where I w...

Our first pit stop today was the Taroona Shot Tower. I visited here a couple of months ago and wrote a blog about it then, so won't write a lot about it here, except to say, dad climbed to the top while I waited at the base and took a few photos.

Good Morning, Sydney! Goodnight, Blue Mountains!

Today, I came to see more of Sydney.  Gina was sooo nice to drive us around the city, and even to some outskirts. Everything I expected and wanted to see and do in Sydney, from Opera Harbour, to some daring bars, to native animals, was accomplished. I just fell in love with Sydney! ------------------------------- As she promised, Gina picked us up from our hotel and drove us around the city. We recalled that she once mentioned about some "nude beaches" in Sydney. Sh...

Well, once I started this tour, I stopped writing in my journal, which is a real shame because I had more amazing experiences during my 3 weeks in NZ than any other trip. But I have a really good reason for abandoning my writing. Listen:That first morning, as we were driving around Auckland and I pulled out the bus itinerary to figure out which cities I might like to stay longer in, I made a startling discovery. I had signed up for a 17 day tour, meaning that if I followed the current bus I w...

Back in Brisie, the builders have finished renovations at my auntie’s house.  I arrived just in time to help out with some painting and decorating, great!  Of course it was lovely to see my auntie and uncle again, cheers Jan and Andrew for putting me up (and putting up with me!) one more week.   As soon as I had the chance, I popped in the only two shops in the whole of Queensland which claimed to fix cameras damaged by sand, and surprise, surprise, they quoted me more than...

Today we headed back to Christchurch. Our holiday time is getting closer to ending. :-( As it wasn't a very long drive to Christchurch we decided to go straight to Orana Wildlife Park as I wanted to see the rhinoseros being fed. It was a lovely day so when we got there we had a walk around and saw some of the things a bit better this time and waited til it was time for the feeding.  It was amazing. Although there is still 2 barriers between us and them, it is close enough to get a good ...

This morning we were picked up and driven to the airport to check in for our flight to Auckland. We were a bit early but we didn't have time to do anything else.  Then the flight to Auckland. When we arrived our chauffeur was waiting. A hotel limo, at an extra cost of course. By the time we were settled into our hotel room we decided to have a late lunch in the Sports bar. Not bad. We definately would only need a light evening meal.  We then went to an area of the hotel called the W...
