Ocean Club Hotel Sharm El Sheikh Reviews
Small Oasis in the Dessert Oct 31, 2006
In 2006 i went to Egypt (Sharm El Sheik) with my sister and some friends from the UK. She made the reservations, as she had “inside info” on special deals all the time. We went for 2 weeks and stayed at the Ocean Club Hotel. Due to the special offers, I couldn’t fly to Sharm directly from South Africa. I had to fly SA – UK – Egypt – UK – SA again. The price was absolutely worth the extra miles, and i got a change to spend time with other family in the UK too.
Naama Bay (where everything happens) is about 10 minutes drive from the Ocean Club Hotel, you can either use the shuttle or taxi, both options is cheap. I preferred staying here; it is less commercial, closer to the “Old Market” and ideal for divers & non-divers travelling alone. The have a dicing school at the hotel, and all diving or snorkelling activities can be done directly from the Ocean Club.
The rooms are VERY basic, but you don’t need more. Air-conditioning is a must, and it worked perfectly!!! There was a TV with some English channels, bar fridge in some of the rooms, and they all have an en-suit bathroom. Breakfast is included; there are 2 big swimming pools, 2 bars and entertainment activities at night. There are no safe deposit boxes in the rooms, but you can rent a small one at the reception area for a minimal price.
The personnel was amazing and very creative, they serviced the rooms daily and made animals or flowers with the linen, i couldn't wait to get back from the boat trip to see what i’ll get “today”.
The open air Phoenix bar was by far the best place to be. The food & drinks were cheap, the atmosphere jovial and it felt like we were a small community in our own little paradise. The great thing was that we were able to spend a lot of time with some of the locals, as the dive instructors & their friends loved to hang out there as well. To be honest, the food is not THAT great, they have a very limited menu, but you have a lot of options re restaurant should you feel you need to eat something else for a change. The drinks were also very reasonable. You have the option to drink local spirits which are much cheaper, but we preferred to get the imported stuff.
Would i stay there again? YES. I loved the place, the people were awesome and the basics were more than enough!! There is so much to do; the room is really just a place to sleep. I would recommend this hotel for anyone who is not fussy and don’t need a five star place to have a great time. (The majority of people who stay there are form the UK)
