Obuse Vacation Guide
Obuse is a small town outside of Nagano, Japan. Tucked high in the Japanese alps, Obuse is a great base to explore the regions mountain activities, onsen, skiing and hiking for example.
Obuse has alot of attractions despite its small size. This town is known in the art world for being a frequent holiday spot for a famous Edo-period wood-block printer, Hokusai. You can see his famous prints, most notably of waves, views of Mt. Fuji, dragons and phoenix at the Hokusai museum in town. Another of his famous works, that of a phoenix who's eyes follow you around the room, adorns the ceiling of the town's Gansho-in temple.
Obuse is also well known for its vegetation. It is surrounded by grapevines, orchards and gardens which produce enormous quantities of fruit and wine. Bonsai lovers will also enjoy Obuse's free bonsai museum and center, headed by bonsai professional Mr. Shinji Suzuki. You can see hundreds of the most incredible bonsai in the world, and if you're lucky, one of the apprentices will have time to give you a tour and advice!!!
