Oakhurst Overview

Oakhurst is the biggest small town, before entering the Yosemite NP’s wilderness through the southern entrance which is only 14 miles away. It’s conveniently situated at the junction of hwy 41 and 49 at an elevation of 2274 ft. The town has an area of 6 sq miles and population about 2800. It has a handful of restaurants, gas stations and hotels that attract Yosemite visitors to either fill up their stock before heading to the park or to treat themselves before or after a long trip.

Visiting the town itself doesn’t seem to be in anyone’s agenda but it is a place of convenience for several reasons. People who don’t want to drive on the winding mountain road can take YART bus from Oakhurst to Yosemite. The costly hotel prices inside the valley make many visitors to base their trip from this town. The town is very close to beautiful Bass Lake area which can provide an amazing experience as well without facing the high volume of crowd in Yosemite.
