O’Brien Estate Wines Napa Reviews
Romancing the wine May 22, 2010
Ok, so, they are a small little winery that produces some really big wines. The idea behind these wines and the winery is a really fascinating story, and the owner Bart can tell you all about it.
They sell a wood box that contains these really interesting wines that takes you through a relationship. It starts out with Flirtation Rose (dry), Attraction Chardonnay, Romance of the Heart Merlot, Seduction Bordeaux-style blend, and Reflection Late Harvest dessert wine. He was working on a couple of others that truly round out the relationship.
They give these very casual and informal tours, yet they are really detailed about their specific winemaking methods. They also tell about what really makes them unique. During the tour, they describe how grapes are grown, pruned, and harvested in their vineyard. Then they take you to the winery to describe the winemaking process, from crushing the grapes to aging them in French oak barrels. It is really worth the time and it is so personal. They will allow you to taste all of their current release wines while you are there. The wines are reflective of a romance. They start you off with their rose called flirtation and you go all the way to a dessert wine called reflection. . Each bottle has a poem written about it. You can be serenaded by the man who wrote them himself.
Julien and I really enjoyed just standing around and talking about all the varieties and all that Bart had put into this place. The prices were very reasonable and they wines were good, also had a pretty reasonable price tag. The tasting room, which was a garage, displays some original artwork of a local artist. They entire experience, from the chickens out in the yard to the conversations made this a nice place to visit. I would also suggest you visit their website; it is full of lots of good information.
This small intimate place is a really nice way to top off any visit to the area. Take a bottle home; I decided that seduction would be the one for me, now if I can just find someone to share it with.
