OBERŻA POD CZERWONYM WIEPRZEM “The Inn Under the Red Hog” Warsaw Reviews
The Inn Under the Red Hog Sep 12, 2008
The 'Under the Red Hog Inn' recreates the menu and spirit of the communist era. Above all, they offer great food at reasonable prices, with entertaining ambience created with many decorative items from the communist era. The last time I was there I was surprised that they give you a free beer for each one your order! That was nice!
Great care has been taken with details here. The host and hostess who seat you are dressed in uniforms from the era and even the music you’ll hear there is from the 1950's through the 1980's. The main dining area is presided by a raised table on a platform (for dignitaries and bourgeoisie!) and a painting of Lenin, Brezhnev, Mao Tse Tsung and Castro, as well as other dignitaries and leaders of the countries behind the Iron Curtain together at one table.
The menu makes for entertaining reading. The sections are divided into two parts: one for the proletariat and the other for dignitaries and bourgeoisie. You can try dishes like “Highly Decorated (and obviously well deserved!) Leonid’s Pork Neck,” “Mao’s Chicken,” “Fidel’s Cigars” and “Erich’s Pork Shank” (prepared according to the German Democratic Republic Recipe!). The portions here are generous, the prices are reasonable, the waiters are generally friendly and tend to speak English – in all, this is a fun place to go for a dinner, where you can try some typical Polish dishes in fun surroundings.
There are areas for both smokers and non-smokers. During the summer months there are a couple large outdoor covered terraces. It’s a good idea to make a reservation.
