Nyonya Baba Cuisine Penang Reviews
Delicious Nyonya Baba Cuisine Mar 19, 2011
When in Penang, a visit to this small restaurant is a must. Great food, great service and value for money.(Won't break the bank).
We tried about 5 dishes and the flavours were just amazing. Subtle yet highly satisfying.
If you're craving for some great tasting home-cooked meal, this is the place to be.

Authentic Perenakan Food Aug 05, 2011
Penang is probably the best place in Malaysia to eat. Hosting Chinese, Malay, and Indian cuisines, you are spoilt for choice. One cuisine, however, stands out from the rest--- Perenakan. The Perenakan are Straits-born Chinese who are the result of the inter-marriage between a Chinese and a Malay. The result is a colorful culture unlike no other in Malaysia.
The best place to try their wonderful and unique cuisine is Baba Nonya Cuisine in Jalan Nagore. This tiny place has only a few tables which means that you have to go there early if you want to snag one.
The place is run by 4th generation Babas(male Perenakan) and Nonyas (female Perenakan). The owners themselves cook and serve the food and they will be glad to explain Perenakan food to you--- how different it is from the versions in Melakka and Singapore, etc. They also make recommendations as to dish combinations which ensures that the flavors are all balanced.
The food is really tasty and flavorful. Not to be missed are the "Curry Kapitan," "Lor bak," and the "Nonya Chap Chai," "Kangkong Belakan." Of course, you gotta end your meal with a bowl of "cendol."
I always make sure to head to the restaurant whenever I'm in Georgetown. The second time I was there, I brought some friends who were all first-timers to Perenakan cuisine and the food simply floored them.
