Nylon Hotel Mandalay Reviews
Cheap hotel close to Royal Palace Feb 17, 2013
This is the second time I stay at this hotel in Mandalay. The hotel itself is good value for money as I am looking for budget, clean and cheap hotel in the area not far from the attraction in the city centre and Royal Palace. The hotel building consist of five storey high without elevator with nice and spacious reception and lobby area for guest to relax, watch television or checking email through wifi, free for hotel guest to use.
The receptionist is friendly and helpful (unfortunately I cannot get any discount for staying there for the second time). However the bellboy is handy and strong to carry my bag up to the third floor. The hotel and the room is quite basic but comfortable with one queen bed, properly working air condition, television, refrigerator (unfortunately this is not working while I was there), big windows with thin curtain facing the street in the bedroom and also in the bathroom, en-suite big bathroom with bathtub, plus standing shower, with hot and cold shower and good water pressure, hand basin and toilet. The hotel does not provide shampoo, however soap are provided free for hotel guest.
It’s reasonable quite in the room at night time, and we couldn’t hear people talking or walking the hallway around the hotel (or maybe we just getting too tired after whole day sightseeing). However we could hear traffic noise in the morning. The price of the room is usd 30 for single or double inclusive breakfast. Breakfast serve from seven to ten in the morning at fifth floor of the building with view facing the street and city, and breakfast is really basic. I could actually skip the breakfast as it is only consist of toast, sticky jam (not sure what kind of jam it was), scary looking butter, and one fried eggs or omelet, papaya, tea or coffee. And it is very busy during breakfast time.
The hotel provide laundry service with reasonable price and quick service (if you give clothing in the morning, you get it back at 8 pm at the same day), it cost 300 Kyatt per piece. And the hotel also able to arrange a car with driver (including petrol) to go sightseeing to three different cities in Mandalay for one day at higher price than outside car rental, and also car and driver (including petrol) to go to airport at very reasonable price (10,000 Kyatt).
The hotel doesn’t have bike rental service; however opposite the hotel there were several shops rent a bike to go around the city centre and it cost 1,500 Kyatt per day, and it is very easy to explore the city attractions by bike from the hotel. There are plenty of restaurants and local eatery nearby the hotel, small minimart to buy water or snack, and also best and cheap ice cream one block away from the hotel.
The advantage of this hotel is the generator shop downstairs next to reception area and you could always have lights in the hotel, as it is common in Myanmar to have light cut every day.
