Number One Guesthouse Reviews
Clean and warm place to spend a night Jun 22, 2009
Number One Guest House is one of many bed and breakfast/guesthouse options in Dover. I read a few reviews, looked for last minute availability and for one with booking online to get instant confirmation. It all worked out well and we were on our way.
The house itself is on Castle Street which is just outside the centre and on the way up the road to the castle. It is also about a 5 minute walk down to the beachfront so the location is great for everything. Dover isn’t that big so location won’t be a problem there anyway. The main door leads into the house where the family lives and within minutes we were checked in and shown to our room which was off the side of the house with its own entrance via a separate street entrance to the garden. This worked out great because you had your own keys and don’t have to bother anyone as you come and go. The room had its own bathroom and was just the right side for a night’s stay. There is a table in the corner which is where your breakfast is served. We put the order in the night before and told what time we would like it. The options were 7:30-8:30am, which I thought was a bit early for a Sunday morning, but we were getting up anyway. The breakfast wasn’t the best I’ve ever had by any means but provided some nourishment to get out and start the day’s walking. Overall I thought it was a fine place and the lady who ran it was nice enough offering suggestions to us. The separate entrance and seclusion made it feel more like a hotel than a guesthouse and for the price of approx £60 it was pretty good value. You can find slightly cheaper and slightly more expensive but they are all in that range. |

We'd booked the 14.00 Ferry from Dunkirk, France to Dover. That meant we had to be at Dunkirk around 13.00 hrs. Since the holiday in Holland had started a week before, we didn't have as much monday morning traffic as we'd expected. The service road …… Time for deprogramming |
