Nowy Targ is the historic, administrative and economic centre of Podhale region. It was founded by Polish King Casimir The Great in 1346. From several centuries every Thursday in this town famous fairs have taken place, where you can purchase nearly everything, from clothing, rugs, to food, and animals. The coat-of-arms of the town imagines the figure of St.Catherina, who is the patroness of one of the local church.
Nowy Targ numbers about 33,000 citizens.
The town is happily situated in the confluence of the rivers Bialy and Czarny Dunajec, beneath the Gorce Mts. There is little airport nearby. In Nowy Targ acts also Sport Club "Podhale", with the famous hockey team named "Szarotki" ("Edelweisses"), which is the Master of Polish Hockey League from years.
The town is also famous of its ice cream (Lody Nowotarskie).

Nowy Targ, Poland
Nowy Targ is my birthplace and home, even thought I haven't reside there in over 13 years now.   It is a town located in southern part of Poland.  Nowy Targ is the capital of Podhale, the mountain region, and it's name means "New Market".  It was established in the 13th century & has gone through many historical events, occupations, WWI and WWII,...even Pope John Paul II has visited this town, which event my parents reminise about.
