Less than ideal location Jan 02, 2010
Had booked it as I wanted to be close to the airport forchecking in the following morning. Thought I might at least be able to find it from the airport, the clue being in the name of the hotel, but it is nowhere near it.

Ended up having to get a taxi, as when I arrived at the airport it was not at the times that they run the free shuttle bus( 6-10am and 7pm-midnight), which leaves from spaces outside the Departures terminal, that are marked for courtesy buses, though mos of the buses are for nearby car parks.

Having been stiffed for €15, minimum fare for airport taxis, and realising just how far away the hotel was, I wasn't best pleased anyway and so to be met by a surly receptionist didn't improve my view of the hotel.

Having checked in I went up to the room on the second floor, and at least here I was impressed. A large Queen size bed to sprawl over, and a settee to lounge on. Room also had a flat screen television, a fridge/minibar and a safe(though it didn't work).

All rooms had internet access, though you may get charged for it, as they were quite specific about the Web Corner being free. Was OK but connection only lasted 20 minutes on a countdown before cutting out( sometimes sooner).

On venturing out found the area round about it to have nothing going for it. The hotel was at the junction of a 6 lane road, to and from the airport, at the intersection with a motorway. There was what looked like a retail park over to the right, but crossing the road was an ordeal in itself as none of the junctions here had any pedestrian crossing.

I headed down towards where the signs were pointing to the city centre, but it was way to far to walk, and I eventually turned back, popping into a small supermarket to grab a few beers and something to eat, even though the restaurant, The Claravia, looked nice and from the menu cards in the room didn't look overly expensive .

Back at the hotel I tried the bar and at €5 for a large beer it was expensive, but not extortionate. While I was sitting about the bar area there were 2 differrent large goups gathered, and after being served drinks on arrival they went off to,seperate, side rooms where obviously they were having their Christmas night out.

Checkout was painless and the courtesy bus turned up and got me to the airport in plenty of time for my flight.

Personally if I were to stay in Malaga again I would just stay in the city centre and get the train out to the airport(runs from about 6-30am).Staying in the Novotel you really are stuck in the hotel as there are no bars or restaurants around it,and it is about as far out of the city centre as you could get.

Possibly might suit if you were travelling by car.

The bit that really annoyed me was how they put it as an airport hotel, though interestingly this is only on the website as the hotel itself is just the Novotel Malaga, with no reference to aeropuerto.
