NotSo Hostel Charleston Reviews
The only hostel in the Carolinas, and it's GRAND! Sep 23, 2016
I was surprised to learn that there aren't many hostels in the Carolinas considering tourism is on the increase. But turns out the only one is in perhaps their coolest city: Charleston.
This is a very bohemian chic kind of hostel: it's split into a main site and an overflow one. The main site itself consists of 1 main building and an annex that contains the private rooms.
The hostel is very well located. It's about a mile away from downtown (King's Street) but still ensconced in warm cozy neighbourhood that's so indicative of the old world charm of Charleston. It's also very safe.
2 days prior to your arrival, you're sent an email welcoming you AND including the code should you arrive early and need to wait in the main lobby for the 5pm checkin.
On checkin, you're provided a tour of the site and the key. Towels available for an extra charge. Breakfast is free (costco bread, jam and peanut butter).
The kitchens are self help but I thought they were small. And with downtown just a mile away, I didn't see too many people cook as restaurants are easy to get to. There are 3 baths in the main building which get occupied fairly quick, so choose a fairly quiet time to use. Great internet speed downstairs, not so much in the room.
My only only gripe about this hostel is that the beds weren't that comfy. The bunker beds creak, and the mattresses themselves aren't very comfy.
All in all, it's a really nice place to socialise. And given the limited choices, it's a slam dunk GO FOR IT!
