The suburb called North Sydney is Sydney's second Central Business District. Located north of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and quite close to suburbs such as Milsons Point, Kirribilli, McMahons Point and Crows Nest - it has a vibrant cafe scene during the week but is sadly practically deserted on the weekend.

North Sydney has excellent views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House so if you're a photographer make sure you get some shots from the north side of the harbour.

North Sydney is easily accessible by train but a word of advice - if you are trying to get to Manly via public transport - getting to North Sydney is not very helpful. Instead go via Wynyard (bus) or Circular Quay (ferry).

So we had planned to leave for Melbourne today or tomorrow and we had to book flights for our onward journey to the west coast in February, a subject of intense negotiation for the past week. Situations have been complicated by Zoe's boyfriend Jim joining us, and by the discovery that Nin cannot hire our camper van with her green P plates (incomplete license - Australians have to take 3 tests). Any traveler will know that these little complications usually get resolved with a late but perfect...

After that amazing experience at The Grand Prix, we headed back towards Sydney to start our trip up the Coast. When we arrived back at Sydney we decided to stay at Manly for a few days. From Manly, we drove further North Sydney to Palm Beach, where Home And Away is Set. Was a very quiet place with plenty of expensive beachfront houses. We stayed there for an hour or so and then headed to nearby campsite.

New Years Eve 2008

Several bottles of champagne, a bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue, and a prime location in North Sydney...it was going to be a good night. The first fireworks show started at 9PM on New Years Eve. This was the "kid" show because of the earlier start time. It consisted of four barges firing off fireworks for 15 minutes or so, quite a spectacular site! The same fireworks were going off in four different parts of the city and in the distance you could see one after another. The city was alive with l...
