North Shore Utila Dec 27, 2012
North Shore in Utila is home for sharp stones, couple of sandy beaches and largest waves you can get on the island. Aside of small area around Pumpkin Hill, there are no buildings that you can see. Small path takes you next to the coastline, and it is easy to walk around and enjoy in nature. This area is not really good for swimming due to sharp coral and volcanic rocks. Most of this area gives existence to lava flow that came down from Pumpkin Hill Volcano. Whole area is much polluted with plastic that comes from other islands. Sea currents take all kinds of plastic goodies and drop it on this shore. Thousands of shoes, toys, plastic bottles and pieces of all products imaginable just lay in heaps mixing with seaweed and driftwood. We did some cleanup, but amount of trash is too big to be taken lightly. Hike is very pleasant especially if you connect it with caves and volcano that are in the area.
