I began my journey from Grand Forks, ND and wanted to drive as far as possible in the first day. I bought a National Park Pass, so to maximize its use, I stopped at Theodore Roosevelt N.P. in North Dakota. North Dakota is flat and dry throughout much of the state and I don't enjoy it. If you talk to a native North Dakotan, watch out! They vehemently defend their state! Once you get to the western side, things start to improve.
The Badlands are nice to dri...

I was born March 29th, 1981 in Grand Forks, ND. It's not the most exciting place to grow up, but I am glad I had the chance to grow up in such a safe and serene city! There are no skyscrapers, or mountains, or amusement parks, or zoo's in this place. There is no rush hour traffic jams or freeways. You can see the stars at night and breathe the clean air all the time!
Grand Forks thrives off the Univeristy that is there. Which is also where I went to college! (graduated 2004). The University...

I am fortunate that my job allows me the opportunity to travel and explore my own country through its winding back roads. I never grow tired of the landscape, friendly faces and cows! :P
quite often I am seeing my homeland from my car, but there are several days when I am able to explore on foot a park, river, city, small town or a dirt road leading to some natural treasure! :P
Enjoy!

We’re discovering that our trip is shadowing the travels of 4 famous Americans, even though we didn’t originally plan it that way. The men are Theodore Roosevelt, Meriwether Lewis, George Rogers Clark and George Armstrong Custer. I told you about Custer’s last battle in an earlier posting; today it’s Theodore Roosevelt that influences our travel.
As we left Miles City, MT going east the heat (still with highs over 100) and dust made the air hazy. There are m...

We were up and out by 7:10 this morning hoping to find buffalo on the Wildlife Loop in Custer Park. We saw more turkeys, Pronghorn and deer but not a single buffalo until we were about five minutes from leaving the park. We came around a corner and there was the herd along side the road in a grassy, wooded area. Dave stopped and I was able to get five or six really good photos of the critters. The babies still had the orange color hides. We were both plea...

DAY 1-Friday June 22, 2007-Bismarck
Well I worked till 9:30am this day and then got home, finished packing last minute things and then we were off to the airport. I was really nervous/excited because I've only flown once and that was at least 10 years ago!! Derrick (my boyfriend) has also only flown once before and that's been probably at least 5 years ago, so we were excited!! Plus this was our first big trip together. We got the airport and checked in pretty quickly ...

Saturday morning we showered, got dressed, packed up and decided to hit Fargo for a little bit.
First we ate at IHOP cause it's my absolute favorite and our waitress was amazing!! She called my boyfriend a "pussy" for not finishing his omelet!! It was so hilarious!
Then we were off to Dead Rockstar cause I was itching to get something pierced, I usually always have to make a quick, spontaneous trip there and get a little tattoo or piercing, the people that work there are amazing and ...

My stay in Fergus Falls was nice and relaxing and all too soon, it was time to continue west. On the 7th , I got on the road and drove into North Dakota and half way across the state. This leg was quite boring with fields of corn and wheat on rolling hills with an occasional small town off of the interstate. Got to Bismark, ND. and then turned north for about 50 miles to the Corps of Engineers Park at Lake Sakakawea. (Yes the spelling is correct for the lake.)
The first few days were spent ...

If you should find yourself spending any amount of time in Fargo, ND then you definitely need to visit the Plains Art Museum. The museum is a stunning three level renovated warehouse located in downtown Fargo. When first entering the building you are instantly greeted with a large friendly open space and very helpful museum assistant at the front desk who will answer any questions regarding the exhibits, children programs and other planned art events. To your left is a lovely little gift shop...

It started innocently enough; I visited Juneau, Alaska in June 1993 and explored the State Capitol building. A few months later, It was Montgomery, Alabama's. In the course of time, it became a hobby. Near the end it became a bit of an obsession. Then, in August of 2006, I visited my 50th US State Capitol building in Pierre, SD. (Yeh!)
Yes, I know, I'm a geography nerd....
