We wanted to drive a portion of the Blue Ridge Parkway while visiting Asheville. The scenic Parkway runs along the mountain ridges from Virginia, where it connects with Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park, through North Carolina to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We started at the Folk Art Center near the Asheville entrance. The Craft House contains an exhibition of folk art and a craft store. From the Folk Art Center, we continued north along the scenic mountain road. It was very...

This morning we woke up and headed west to Pisgah National Forest, which is one of my favorite places in the world. I visit the park at least once a year and take my camera with me every time. I can only seem to capture tiny fragments of the park's beauty each time that I visit. We headed to looking glass falls, a waterfall that I have photographed many times. The roadway takes you to a great look out point andwooden stairs lead down to the river in which the falls gra...

So tonight I went to another Travbuddy meetup in Charlotte, North Carolina. The MUP was organized by James (jmaxiv) in honor of Mario (Mario26) and Valerie (Lalie) visiting from Montreal. After going to the MUP in Singapore only a couple of weeks before, I decided I couldn't miss this one (even though it was 4 hours away- Oh the sacrifices we make for Travbuddy!!!). I first met Juan (John1112) a few mintues north of Downtown (Uptown) Charlotte and we went to TGI Fridays to m...

Looking Glass Falls is just North of Brevard, NC with an easy access which makes it very popular for tourists. It has a walk way down to the pool for easy access to admire this beautiful falls from below. The name comes from Looking Glass Rock, which resembles a mirror, as water freezes on its sides and reflects the sun. Looking Glass falls was near the start of road from Brevard to the BRP, along this path there were many falls. The road was very twisty and the speed limit wa...

Ok so about a month ago Will, Mel and I were having dinner and during our conversation it turned out that I was going to have a 2 hr layover in Charlotte, NC and Will was going to be moving there by then! That's when we decided we'd get together for a quick dinner and catch up. As with most plans I make...they don't quite turn out as expected but still ends up being fun! Will wanted to try a place called the Fat Burrito (sounded really cool so I hope he does a review on it..hint!) but wh...

Rain or no rain? Do I go or do I stay? I will wait another hour to see if it clears , screw it “On the Road Again”. Ten minutes later I am under the overhang of a Lowes home improvement center buying another TARP. 15 minutes 10 bungees later , rain suit on & here we go. I just remembered why I don’t like riding in the rain. I don’t mind getting wet , I don’t mind the bike getting dirty. I really don’t like riding when you can’t...

It seems like American business is built on customer service. Competition has forced businesses in the US to become efficient, inexpensive, and offer a certain level of customer service that is virtually unknown anywhere else. You can order a pizza online and have it at your house in 30 minutes. You can shop all kinds of specialty shops that carry every kind of item you ever dreamed of. And if you change your mind after buying something, no self-respecting re...

We are back and I havent lost anybody in the process:) We all had good time and it was a different experience for both my family and Jay's parents. My brother and my uncle were great help in Istanbul. They dropped us off anywhere we wanted and we were picked up again anytime we wanted. They made the trip more comfortable. As far as I heard from our group, the main observations were: - History is mind-blowing.- It was nice to sit down in the shops and to be offered tea or apple tea while shopp...

Three guys and Lady Di went on their Bon Voyage ride today. We hope the 4th guy went riding in the Windy City also. All our friends in the Village cycling group rode, had coffee, and wished us well. Next job is final packing.

The day of our flight Bryan took Katie to the airport, help us with our stuff, had some laughs and to say goodbye and I also had to say bye to my little Sparkie I will miss him so. In the airplane I was very lucky to sit near the window I took some airshots of Charlotte and clouds. Later on in our first stop in Miami I finally found out what Katie's surprise was it was plastic poppers that you vent inside out I haven't played with them before or never even seen one but she always kn...
