So we’ve been living in North Carolina for
almost a year now and sampled exceeding few of its attractions. Time to correct this shortcoming and head for the Outer Banks! The trip was thanks to my brother-in-law, who
invited us to join an annual get-together he has there each summer with a bunch
of college buddies and their families.
They’ve been doing this almost every year since the early 1990’s, so
there was obviously some vibe we needed to get in touch with.

After 4 months, and still settling in, we ventured into the great outdoors of our new state. We set out late in the morning to hike the trails of Lake Waccamaw State Park. Near the trail entrance is where the four camping areas are situated. Reservations are reqiured to camp and they assign a site to you. We opted not to camp because there would be other people there and that would defeat the purpose of being one with nature. We took the Lake Trail. It's the longe...

As soon as I picked up my cousin Mar from the Raleigh/Durham airport, we set off on our cross country journey. Equipped with the 2006 National Parks Pass, we planned to visit as many National Parks, Monuments, and Seashores as we could along the way. Our first stop was the Outer Banks off the coast of North Carolina. The Outer Banks is a collective term referring to the towns that are located on a thin stretch of barrier islands that protect North Carolina's coast from the A...

We toured the largest house in the US. Impressive and very nice weather too 70F. This place is in Asheville NC and is a quick stop off the Blue Ridge Parkway or is easily access by way of I-40. Parking is a big problem and the cost of the entrance is expensive. Since the Christmas rush was over, we got our tickets for a very steep discount. Lucky for us!!!
The house was built by George Vanderbilt and is incredibly huge. Construction was started in 1889 and completed in 1895. The st...

I grew up in Murphy, N.C. which is a small mountain town tucked away from reality with a population of about a thousand. It has its ups and of course it has its downs. However, it finally has a Wal-Mart (hehe) although not much else. Murphy is the county seat of Cherokee County and therfore holds the "official, government" business of the western region. In other words, the only courthouse for many many miles is in Murphy. The courthouse is one of the "places of interest" that people usually ...

Well it had to end sooner or later. Today was our last day in the house. Everyone that had arrived for the wedding has come and gone. So now its just our original core group which arrived last Sunday. Needless to say, we had to get the house spotless and be out of there by 10am. With everyone chipping in, we got the place as clean as possible.
Since we had a few hours to kill before hitting the road, the girls decided to drag my ass along as they went shopping. You know a guy being dragged ...

After meeting up with Eric the previous day we went to 'Buffalo Wild Wings' to met Juan from Guatemala! My second travbuddy! :D When we saw Juan we hugged him and got some wings to eat. We had a lot to choose from Eric and I shared Parmesan Garlic and Honey BBQ and Juan went for Medium. He ate 14 wings! Oink Oink Juan. He really enjoy himself and was nice enough to pay for the bill. After we all finished lunch we talked about our summer plans, who are we planning to meet next and how long we ...

Just riding along, having left Fayetteville N.C. thinking about the mountains I was headed for. In the town of Raeford N.C. on the north side of the road in a large field is see the words INDOOR SKYDIVING. I slow down change lanes & turn around after thinking about it for a split second. Sign up go to the 3ed floor to watch someone in the wind tunnel who knows what they’re doing. I am not sure of the name of the group who is practicing, looks like fun to me...

I can’t pinpoint when I first became aware of Petra, but it was only within the last several years…and love at first sight. Who could glimpse these magnificent, ancient structures cobbled into the red-rose walls of desert canyons and not be smitten? Slowly I gathered tidbits around Petra and a desire was kindled to venture to Jordan, where the ruins are located.
Before long Petra became a destination and thanks to some friends living in Dubai, the visit wasn’t just anothe...

Wilmington, North Carolina is a lovely and quaint town situated on the coast of North Carolina. It has lots of history and gorgeous beaches! It's also often referred to as the "Hollywood of the South" because it's home to television productions like Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill. Needless to say, there are lots of small-scale actors in this area as well.

This morning we woke up and headed west to Pisgah National Forest, which is one of my favorite places in the world. I visit the park at least once a year and take my camera with me every time. I can only seem to capture tiny fragments of the park's beauty each time that I visit. We headed to looking glass falls, a waterfall that I have photographed many times. The roadway takes you to a great look out point andwooden stairs lead down to the river in which the falls gra...

Looking Glass Falls is just North of Brevard, NC with an easy access which makes it very popular for tourists. It has a walk way down to the pool for easy access to admire this beautiful falls from below. The name comes from Looking Glass Rock, which resembles a mirror, as water freezes on its sides and reflects the sun. Looking Glass falls was near the start of road from Brevard to the BRP, along this path there were many falls. The road was very twisty and the speed limit wa...
