North Carolina Museum of Art Reviews

Art museum Jul 24, 2008
Free admission but some special exhibitions you have to pay admission. Nice mix of old and new art. One of only two American art museums to have a dedicated gallery for Judaic ceremonial art. I really enjoy the Egyptian exhibit. I'll try to upload pictures for this soon. The musuem is currently expanding but once all the construction is over it will be really nice. Outside of the musuem there are walking trails with sculptures. Another neat thing about the museum is that they have an outdoor theater. On friday nights they show movies on this screen.

The North Carolina Museum of Art is beautiful inside and out. The museum's permanent collection is free to the public! The permanent collection spans various periods and civilizations. Notable artists include Sandro Botticelli, Claude Monet, and Georgia O'Keeffe. Throughout the year there are special exhibitions for a nominal fee.

Surrounding the museum is Museum Park. The park is 164 acres with hiking trails, picnic tables, an outdoor theater, a historic smokestack, as well as interesting and large art pieces. You can be walking the trails and enjoying nature when out of the blue you see structures that are out of the ordinary...the museum calls the outdoor art pieces environmental art. Performances at the outdoor theater range from live music to movies on the lawn. Check the website to see what's playing.
