North Beach’s boardwalk welcomes visitors with glimpses of the blue Chesapeake Bay—and the Eastern Shore on sunny days—and the slightly-salty scent of water kissed by the Atlantic. A bike path runs alongside the wide walkway, and then wooden planters separate the two pathways from the one-way road. Lampposts decorated with either flags or banners divide the planters. Two short piers and one long one jut out into the water and provide easy access to cool breezes. Benches along the boardwalk provide places to read, drink coffee, people/dog watch or just enjoy the view.
The boardwalk hosts several events during the year. The largest is probably Bayfest, a small town festival held at the end of the summer. At other times the music of small concerts fill the air or family bonfires are held on the beach. When I walked by today, a yoga class was practicing near the beach.
Restrooms are located near the long pier. At the end of this pier fishing is permitted.
While the boardwalk is free, there is a charge to use the beach ($7 for adults, reduced if you live within county).
Picnicking is prohibited on the boardwalk, but several nearby eateries provide food options. Also, during the summer a small vendor offers snacks such as Sno-Cones or fries.
Free parking is available.
