I could write more here... about my NIGHTMARE stop in Mexico City, and how I honestly had a few hours of believing I may never be allowed back to my native soil... but really I'm just going to honor the fact that I don't want to. Alluding to it there is enough - it happened, but in no way changed the trip, and I don't want to write a major entry about it at the end.
INSTEAD:
I'd just like to say how very much my thoughts on the plane tended to gear towards everyone I had been spending…

I am heading to the States for the last time ever. Ok I said the exact same thing the last three times I went but now it is really the very last time because after this last visit I will have seen all the places I want to go in this country and several of them on different times of the year. So this is the end for sure.
The flight is really noting to talk about I got a direct flight from Copenhagen to Dulles in Washington - which really cuts away a lot of travel time compared to the …

What a week (or 3). Ever since school started I haven't gotten home before 10:30 3-4 nights a week and my weekends have been spent helping to develop that non-profit. All my Cancun guidebooks (I got 3!) came in today and I've been marveling at the pretty pictures, flagging the best restaurants in the area and generally mapping out my itinerary. Then I realized I should probably check the weather today.. only to find out IT'S FREAKING THUNDERSTORMING! Oh. My. God.Living in LA spoils peopl…

One week ago, I was really itching for some travel. And I bought a plane ticket to one of the most beautiful places on earth. And then I remembered that I had to ask my bosses for time off =) I have never been so glad for such a lovely vacation, full of new experiences and leaving me with a desire to do so much more the next time around.Packing for this trip was insane. I packed literally a week and a half worth of clothing for 4 and a half days in Hawaii. It's just that I didn't know who I w…

I expected to be stuck in traffic for the late afternoon/early evening ride home but the traffic was very light...what a relief. I don't think I would have been able to stay awake if we were in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Aside from dodging merging 18-wheeler trucks, the brief sandstorm, and the high winds as we traversed the mountain passes from the high desert to the valleys, the drive went smoothly and we got into LA in about 5 hours. Jenn...thanks for being the brave soul …

As soon as I picked up my cousin Mar from the Raleigh/Durham airport, we set off on our cross country journey. Equipped with the 2006 National Parks Pass, we planned to visit as many National Parks, Monuments, and Seashores as we could along the way. Our first stop was the Outer Banks off the coast of North Carolina. The Outer Banks is a collective term referring to the towns that are located on a thin stretch of barrier islands that protect North Carolina's coast from the A…

The trip from Chicago, Illinois was fun, met a guy named Bob in my coach car and we ended up talking most of the trip in the lounge car. He was on his way to Boston to do some work as a house renovator. The train was late getting into Toledo, Ohio because of heavy freight traffic on the Norfolk Southern rail line. Amtrak has been having problems lately with them, usually the train isn't late getting into the Toledo station.Once we arrived, I found my car in the parking lot, loaded up th…

Tonight was the retirement celebration for Drs. Donald and Marjorie Bray, who are a husband-wife couple and head of Latin American Studies at Cal State LA. I haven't known them very long but right away I knew how special they were. Donald's class was one of the possible electives for my post-bac International Economics certificate so the first time I met them was March of 2007. Some students have had them for 6 years (undergrad and grad school). Tonight was really touching as CalState is forc…

at 1:30am, after many an alarm and snooze have gone off, we rise one by one to get ready to go watch meteor showers! Earlier in the evening Big and Nhi figure out that we're supposed to look over Orion's right shoulder. The only problem is that the moon is very bright tonight! But after a few minutes of packing, we head out to find a darker place to watch the meteor shower. We head back towards Zion National park and accidentily get in the way of two pairs of deers! Nancy knew the appropriate…
