Dinner in the Dark Jan 29, 2014
Nocti Vagus in Berlin is the original 'Dinner in the Dark' experience. The dining room is completely dark enabling the other senses to be heightened. All food is prepared by chefs with their full sight however the waiters and waitresses are either partially or fully sight impaired.

You arrive at the restaurant and a host takes your dinner and drink orders. The menus are three course and you choose from either Beef, Chicken or a Surprise Menu. Sunday to Wednesday the menu price is 39 Euro and Thursday to Saturday they have dinner and a show for 49 Euro. Drinks are average restaurant prices.

You are brought downstairs into a dark room where you are then introduced to your waiter/waitress who then leads you to your table.

At first it's very strange, your eyes are trying to adjust to the dark but it's no use as it is complete darkness down there. Your eyes strain but after some time you give up and relax. It's amazing how quickly you get used to feeling your way around the darkness, using cutlery and pouring wine.

Our group was there over the New Year period and even though we were there on a Monday night, it was very busy. You could tell the restaurant was quite large and it was full. The meals and drinks took a fair while to come out. Much longer than I would normally expect even in a busy restaurant.

The food was ok, I wouldn't say it was fantastic but then that could also have something to do with our sight being taken away. It's definately an experience worth paying and waiting for, would I do it twice? Probably not.
