All Kinds of Birds....and a Snake or Two Mar 23, 2014
I didn't walk the entire refuge, but I did walk about four miles of it. I mainly went to get some exercise and enjoy the sights and sounds of the birds migrating through the delta. At one point, I looked down along the edge of the slough and saw a big ball of squirming garter snakes! They must have just woken up from the warm sun and we just untangling themselves and heading in different directions. I also saw a pair of black-tailed dear.

Birds sited:

Golden Crowned Sparrow

Red-Winged Blackbirds

Cackling Geese

Canada Geese

Greater White-Fronted Geese

Wigeons

Coots

Buffleheads

Cormorants

Shovelers

Swallows

Merganser

Shrike

Northern Shoveler
