Nirwan Gardens - Mayang Sari Beach Resort Bintan Reviews
Expensive, secluded and unhappening resort Feb 21, 2010
Mayang Sari is for those who just want to go to a secluded place and relax in their cottage with the sounds of the sea waves. Although, it does come with a high price because this hotel is very expensive, their beach view cottage is about 309SGD per night (buffet breakfast included). It does have a good view of the beach though and the room is big and clean and with a nice interior too (a sitting area and walk in closet).
The down side of this resort is that it is under renovation at the time we were there so so the reception lobby was just a makeshift room and you have to find your way after the bus shuttle drops you off as there's no one to welcome you. I was kind of disappointed because it didn't have the same grand welcome like in Nirwana Hotel where they welcomed the guests with a group of locals performing Indonesian dances for arriving guests. Check in is at 2pm and so if you arrive there early, there is nothing to do but wait and be bored.
The restaurant (serves Indonesian and Indian food) is also under renovation and their food is quite pricey. The breakfast buffet was also so-so and was of two star hotel quality. It is better to just go to the nearby restaurant where there's more variety of food and for a bit lesser price.
The resort is real quiet and unhappening there's not really much to do but enjoy the view of the beach. They don't have water sports, you have again to go to the next resort nextdoor (Nirwana Beach Hotel).
Mayang Sari is also not advisable for guests with kids, they would easily get bored here. It is ok for those who wants privacy and seclusion. They do have wireless internet connection and a few cable channels on TV.
They also charge 5 SGD per person for shuttle services to go to somewhere in the island. This is I think quite standard among all the Nirwana group of resorts but still this is a complete rip off. Spas and restaurants do have free shuttle pick up for a minimum guaranteed spending (about 60 SGD).
If ever I'm going to go to Bintan again, I think I would rather book their sister hotel, Nirwana Hotel or maybe look into more affordable and more happening hotels/resorts. I have tried the Angsana Resort which is also expensive but the service and facilities were at par for it's price.
