Hossen Nippon Maru Dec 19, 2010
The Nippon Memorial Park represents a decommissioned ship known as the "Hossen Nippon Maru". It is an engine powered sail boat that holds the Guiness World Record of being the longest running boat ever. This ship was active from the years 1930 to 1984 and stands afloat today in the Yokohama Bay Harbor. It is also surrounded by modern buildings and easily stands out as a tourist attraction.

There are English brochures available along with Japanese. There are videos and audio speakers scattered throughout the inside of the ship in both languages, explaining the deep history of the vessel. For a ship that endured 54 years of rough seas and deployments dating back before World War 2, I was rather impressed at the ship's preservation, knowing there were some modifications done after the Nippon Maru's decommissioning for the sake of display to tourists.

This was established in a typical museum like setting, only afloat. It is also easy to move around in. There were some good sights on this and overall a worthwhile look for 600 yen. Nippon Maru memorial park is a firm recommendation and great place to explore on a weekend.

Hossen Nippon Maru is so beautifully preserved. I liked seeing the old black and white photographs.
